A is for ART MUSEUM

Jesse and I had our first alphabet date this week at the Houston Museum of Fine Arts. Neither of us are into art but it was a lot of fun to do something we would never do. That's the whole point of alphabet dating in the first place. We weren't really into the art from different areas of the world as much as we were interested in European and American art but we did find the "North Looks South: Building the Latin American Collection" the most interesting. It had paintings by Frida and really cool/strange walk-through exhibits. There was one were we had to put on little booties and walk through a white room with white floors and walls. The room was divided into an areas with bright red, blue, and green lights. The drastic changes in colors were supposed to shock our retinas and change our perception of our skin, clothes, and the rest of our surroundings. Another walk-through exhibit we liked was called "La Ciudad Hidroespacia"; which I think translates to "the outer space city".
The artist basically made clear space ships in which he envisioned people will be living on as they travel through the Earth's atmosphere in the future. The models hung from the ceiling in a blue room and a short film played which showed the models floating around above a city. One artist created pictures of his family members out of their own hair! All in all, Jesse and I enjoyed the really weird stuff at the museum; not the art with actual historical value. Go figure.

Later that evening we met up with April for her boyfriend's, Chris, 24th birthday dinner at Lupe's Tortillas. The meal was great and the drinks were cheap. Afterwards, we went to the Shot Bar in Midtown and The Dubliner in the Heights. Both were SO much fun! Great music and great people! I highly recommend them!

That's it for now...I'm still working on getting to the Terra Cotta Warriors exhibit at the Museum of Natural Science. April told me about Mixers & Elixers there every Friday...I'll probably do that before I see the exhibit with Jesse! Ha!
