"I" IS FOR IMPROV!

On Saturday, after a day in the library studying my life away, Jesse and I had dinner at Cabo's and decided there to go see Robert Schimmel at the Improv. Jesse really likes him and I had no idea who he was. I must say, that he wasn't as funny as Jesse made him out to be. The opening acts were much funnier than he was. The first guy won "Funniest Guy in Houston" and is now competing to be the "Funniest Comic in Texas". The second opening act was HILARIOUS! He was probably one of the funniest guys I have EVER heard. I don't remember his name but I think he's a regular at the Improv because he opened for Damon Wayans (who was there a few days ago). I am going to buy tickets for Jamie Kennedy for Jesse's graduation...I'm sure he won't be disappointing! The reason why the Schimmel guy wasn't funny was because (1) he was on vicodin (2) all of his jokes were depressing because he and his wife are filing for divorce and his daughters sleep around and do drugs...that's all he talked about. It was really disturbing and many people left during the show. Way to bring the crowd down, Schimmel!

E, F, G

Here's my Alphabet Dating update! I was such a terrible blogger last year and have so much to update on. I hope I don't forget anything. We started off our ABC dates by taking turns picking the dates but last semester was so busy for the both of us so we picked our dates together because it was so difficult to find weekends we were both free.

E IS FOR EIGHT YEAR ANNIVERSARY!

Jesse and I celebrated our eight years of love last September by going to Plano for my friend/sorority sister's wedding. The wedding was so beautiful and it was particularly touching because I had met her and her husband (Matt) my freshman year and watched them go through the awkward beginning of a relationship to where they are now. They are such a great couple and am so excited to see what the future holds for them.

Jesse and I went to Plano the day before the wedding and arrived just in time to get ready for dinner. We went to Macaroni Grill for a yummy italian feast. I had lost the diamond earings that my mom gave me for graduation and cried for days about it. I was shocked when Jesse gave me diamond earings for our anniversary. He also gave me a Coach wristlet that fits my essentials and can be thrown in my backpack for school. I have so much school related stuff to carry on a daily basis and have had to sacrifice carrying a purse to school! About those earings, I haven't worn them in a while because I am afraid to lose them but now I don't remember where they are. YIKES!

The next day we went shopping for Matt & Jess's gift...leave it to me to get a gift last minute. Then we went to the mall and I bought him Polo stuff and a new wallet. Boys are so hard to shop for so I decided I would let him pick his anniversary gear.

F IS FOR FINALLY, KINGS OF LEON!

For those of you who have been reading this blog for a while, you know how THRILLED I was when I found out Kings of Leon were coming to Houston. I waited patiently for the tickets to go on sale in June and then bought them the minute they went on sale. The concert just happened to fall on Jesse's 23rd birthday - what a great way to celebrate! KOL is one of our favorite bands and we were counting the days to the concert all summer. October 6th came around and it was during the week. Jesse cut class and met me in downtown (I go to school 3 blocks away from the Toyota Center) and we went to McCormick and Schmick for dinner and then the show. We discovered that day that McCormick has an excellent happy hour. I highly recommend the $2.50 quarter pound cheeseburger with fries accompanied by a $3 order of calamari to share! Here are pictures from the show:

G IS FOR GAME DAY DOUBLE DATE!

Later that month, my best friend Jessica (not the one that got married in Plano) invited Jesse and me to go to the Rockets Home Opener and sit in her dad's suite. It was October 31st (Halloween!) and a lot of the fans wore silly costumes. Jessica and her boyfriend Marc rarely get to see each other because she is in med school and he works most weekends and we hardly ever get to see each other because of school. I am so lucky to have had the opportunity to spend time with the two of them AND Jesse at the same time. I can't wait to be a successful attorney and have a suite at the Toyota Center - they really get the royal treatment there. Each person in the suits was given a home opener t-shirt and were paid a visit by the lovely Rockets dancers. Marc and Jesse took pictures with them while Jessica and I dove in to the dessert bar that stopped at our room!

It's been a while...

You would think that the reason I haven't blogged in a while is because I've been busy being my fabulous self (which is in part, true) but really I just haven't felt like it. Now, I'm not abandoning my blog, but aside from going to the movies every weekend, getting my wisdom teeth pulled, visiting my Grandma, and reading for law school - I haven't really done anything worth blogging about.

Alphabet dating had been put on hold the past few weeks. Once again, Jesse schemed his way to making E into another movie date with Harry Potter in 3D at Edward's Cinema. I was tired so I went with it. He failed at making watching Funny People (which was not as funny as expected) the F date. We need to come up with something original for F. Something that does not involve going to the zoo to see flamingos or ferrets because it's too dang hot in this city! We've gotten sidetracked by the weekend movie releases. One thing Jesse and I can't resist is a relaxing night watching the weeks "must see". We opted out of our ABC's this past weekend because I had just gotten back from El Salvador so we went on a romantic dinner (followed by a movie, of course!) to catch up on everything that had happened while I was gone. I really missed Jesse and hate being away from him that long, but we got to talk every day and our reunion dinner was so much fun! Distance really does make the heart grow fonder.

I have 11 days until I give myself completely to the study of law. Although this is technically my last weekend to run wild before law school starts, I can't because it is already consumed by something law related! I'm taking a prep course with Kaplan Saturday and Sunday from 9am-5pm. I know, crazy. Then on Tuesday I have a New Student Reception at the law school and orientation Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday. I'm really excited/nervous to start this new chapter of my life. The work load is going to be intense but I'm looking forward to learning about subjects I am actually interested in. I cannot even begin to explain how exciting my Contracts reading is. I'm sure this feeling will fade once I'm knee deep in reading.

Lastly, guess who's helping with youth ministries?! ME! Jesse is all for me getting involved with our church, as long as I don't make him volunteer as well. Typical.

I think we might be going to a Stros game this weekend...F is for FANATICS?! We'll see what Jesse has up his sleeve!

Perpetual state of D

It seems as though our alphabet dating has come to a standstill. There are so many "D" things we wanted to do that we've decided to get them all out of our system before we move on to "E". I am sure this breaks the alphabet dating rules somehow but we're doing it anyway.

On Friday night, Jesse and I went to Studio Grill for dinner and a movie. My brother had told me about how neat the place was and we knew we needed to upgrade the Alamo Drafthouse for a classier dining/theater experience. "D" became dinner & a movie, a classic dating choice. We decided on Bruno, expecting to laugh harder than we did for Borat but left feeling violated and offended. It takes a lot to offend Jesse and let me tell you, he was VERY offended after watching the movie. "D" then took the form of "disturbing dinner & a movie". After wards, we met up with John and Ashley at Howl At The Moon, a bar in the Midtown area. Initially, I felt uncomfortable being in a place full of people in their 30's and watching them go crazy on the piano bar and playing thumper in the corner. I still need to adjust to the city life and being around people of all ages; not expecting the same pastel filled scene at the local college hangout.

I sure do miss you, Scruffy's.

People watching there was our entertainment for the night and we ended up having a great time. We still, however, felt the D date was a bust and felt we could have done so much more with it...which takes us to this weekend, D date part II. We have quite a few options for this weekend:

Free Salsa Dancing Lessons at the Aquarium during "Latin Beats". This will REALLY be Jesse and I doing something different!

Or Mixer & Elixirs at the Houston Museum of Natural Science on Friday night. It's $15 to get in and you can enjoy live entertainment and food amongst the dinosaurs. There's a cash bar and for $8 more you can watch a movie in the planetarium.
Check out how much fun everyone is having around the well lit dinosaur!

I've been wanting to go to both all summer long...we might just do both Friday night! In other news, I saw that my first law school assignment is online and waiting for me to get started on. I'm so excited to finally be able to learn ONLY about subjects that I'm interested in. I am a little nervous though, the assignment stated that if your last name begins with the letters A-C then you should be fully prepared to lead the discussion in class. Uh-oh...that means ME! Yikes! I have exactly 5 weeks to prepare myself to get called on and I want to make sure I impress my Criminal Law professor...maybe I should start now? No way, it's SUMMER! I'll start after my trips to El Salvador and Thailand (keeping my fingers crossed on that one).

Stay classy, bloggers.

C is for CRAWFISH

I love our alphabet dates! This past weekend we ate POUNDSSSSS of crawfish at our new eatery Off The Hook Seafood. It's off of Westheimer a few blocks after Addicks Clodine going towards 1464. My dad's friend's sons own it and said his sons boil the best crawfish in town. He wasn't kidding! The rest of their menu seems limited but it is enough for a new restaraunt (they've only been open for a month). Try their crawfish queso and pad thai (sp?)...you WILL NOT be disappointed. It's family owned/run and they seriously are some of the nicest people I have ever met. Check them out at Off The Hook Seafood.

Seeing as my blog has now become a dating blog I can either:

(A) Make this blog into a strictly dating blog. Mary says this will give me more followers. Honestly, who doesn't want to be popular? Kidding...

or...

(B) Create a new blog about fun dating ideas!

Please comment, I need as much insight at possible!

B is for BOWLING

Yesterday, Jesse and I went to the oh so dangerously ghetto FunPlex to bowl. It was his turn to pick and he narrowed it down to two excellent choices - bowling or the Butterfly Museum. Being the incredible athlete that he is - he chose bowling. I remember going there when I was younger and thinking it was the coolest place on the planet. It was the closest thing to a Celebration Station or Dave & Busters in our area and was the local hangout throughout my childhood. My parents always thought it was sketch, so I didn't go as often as my friends did. Fifteen years later, it ONLY serves as a cheap place to bowl during the day...we wouldn't dare go there past sunset. We tried to play the arcade games but a lot of the machines stole our tokens! Afterwards, we went to church and hung out with my cousins. An amazing day with an amazing boyfriend...I am so blessed!

Jesse killed me.

I also spent this weekend exploring the city and boy was it eventful. We went to Midtown one night and I joined the UFO Club at the Flying Saucer. It was on the top of my to-do list before I even moved back to Houston and am so glad I'm finally doing it. The Flying Saucer has 200 beers and as a club member, a record is kept of each beer you have tried. When you reach the 200th beer, you get a golden plate with your name/whatever on it and it is hung in the "Ring of Honor". You are then given $100 for a private party at the bar for the unveiling of your plate. I'm not much for beer but I wouldn't mind trying each beer once within the next year or two. We ventured into Katy one night and went to Baker Street and Wild Wings (not to be mistaken for the popular Buffalo Wild Wings). Wild Wings was a lot of fun and and inexpensive. I recommend their chili queso.

It's my turn to pick the next alphabet date which probably won't happen until July because Jesse has a big test coming up. Any suggestions?

A is for ART MUSEUM

Jesse and I had our first alphabet date this week at the Houston Museum of Fine Arts. Neither of us are into art but it was a lot of fun to do something we would never do. That's the whole point of alphabet dating in the first place. We weren't really into the art from different areas of the world as much as we were interested in European and American art but we did find the "North Looks South: Building the Latin American Collection" the most interesting. It had paintings by Frida and really cool/strange walk-through exhibits. There was one were we had to put on little booties and walk through a white room with white floors and walls. The room was divided into an areas with bright red, blue, and green lights. The drastic changes in colors were supposed to shock our retinas and change our perception of our skin, clothes, and the rest of our surroundings. Another walk-through exhibit we liked was called "La Ciudad Hidroespacia"; which I think translates to "the outer space city".
The artist basically made clear space ships in which he envisioned people will be living on as they travel through the Earth's atmosphere in the future. The models hung from the ceiling in a blue room and a short film played which showed the models floating around above a city. One artist created pictures of his family members out of their own hair! All in all, Jesse and I enjoyed the really weird stuff at the museum; not the art with actual historical value. Go figure.

Later that evening we met up with April for her boyfriend's, Chris, 24th birthday dinner at Lupe's Tortillas. The meal was great and the drinks were cheap. Afterwards, we went to the Shot Bar in Midtown and The Dubliner in the Heights. Both were SO much fun! Great music and great people! I highly recommend them!

That's it for now...I'm still working on getting to the Terra Cotta Warriors exhibit at the Museum of Natural Science. April told me about Mixers & Elixers there every Friday...I'll probably do that before I see the exhibit with Jesse! Ha!
